On Saturday 11th September 2021, our very own: Matthew Tickle - Operations Director, Katie Giles - Assistant Formulator, Daniel Brown - Transport Manager and Naomi Barnes - Formulations & Quality Manager, are taking part in a 'Race the Sun Triple Challenge' in aid of Action Medical Research for Children.
The “Race The Sun” event consists of a 40 mile hilly bike ride around Skiddaw mountain in the Lake District, before taking on a 2 mile canoe course on Derwent Water. The day (and probably the DN team!) will be finished off with an 11 mile hike to the summit of Skiddaw and back, an altitude of 931m.
Ever since the challenge was set, back in July, our DN Team have been fitting in their own personal training, from walking the dog to climbing mountains, taking part in marathons and long bike rides in our gorgeous countryside! Here's how they have been getting on...
Daniel Brown:
Along with taking his two Cocker Spaniels: Anna and Jess for long walks daily, Dan has also been tackling the tallest mountain in the UK - Ben Nevis! As well as on his return, making sure he is fully re-fuelled!
Dan also gets out on his bike when ever possible recently completing 'a little 9 mile jaunt out via low and high Bentham'
Katie Giles:
Katie is already a non-stop mother of three! Yet she still finds time to train for this and further events! Including climbing up local mountains such as: Pen-Y-Ghent and Pendle (twice!) Katie also gets out on her bike often, recently completing 51k around the Ribble Valley via Jeffrey Hill! Katie is also training for an upcoming marathon, so she does a lot of running: at least 3 x 5k runs a week, going on her cross trainer to beat her previous times , as well as walking and cycling between sorting her children, working and milking!
Katie & Dan recently did their own 2.5 hour bike ride around the Ribble Valley via: Bolton by Bowland, Slaidburn, Newton, Dunsop Bridge, Whitewell, Cow Ark, Bashall Eaves & Waddington, from work one evening realising nearly 51k!
Matthew Tickle:
Matt is another very active member of the team, competing in many sporting events as well as taking on many forms of exercise in his day to day life. Recently Matt has taken part in a 10 mile road race at Preston, walked the Alpes on a family holiday (if you look closely in the middle photo, you can see Matt's 3 year old son in-front of him!) and completed the Liverpool Chester Liverpool 50 Mile Bike Ride! Day to day Matt walks his Basset Fauve de Bretagne dog Nala!
Naomi Barnes:
Naomi along with taking her two Border Collies: Fizz and Dot on daily 4-5 mile walks during the week, and even longer walks over weekends, she likes to find time to fit in long bike rides such as recently biking to Hawshead - re-fuelling - then heading back home...
Naomi has also recently climbed White Maiden near Coniston, completed a 31 mile bike circular near Holden, taking in views of Pendle Hill and a 35 mile bike ride near Ingleton!
Our teams' target is to raise £1800, the event is sure to be extremely challenging and we would be very grateful to receive any donations, large or small, towards this target amount. You can make a donation by visiting our JustGiving page (link below) or give DN HQ a call to arrange a donation 01200 420200.
We would like to thank everyone up to now and going forward for your support!
"GO TEAM DN!!"
