Wednesday 17th February saw the second Border & Lakeland Holstein Club Sale at H&H Borderway Mart, Carlisle.
Some of the most prolific Holstein cow families featured in the February Border & Lakeland sale. Ashlyn, Alicia, Adeen, Missy, Licorice and Roxy all made this catalogue special, trade topped at 4,000gns for a yearling heifer with milking heifers topping at 3,000gns. The overall average for almost 100 milkers was £1953; 44 animals sold for or more than £2000 with 43 buyers recorded from 16 counties with all the four home nations represented. There was a noticeable drop in the value for animals of lesser quality with a larger percentage of high yielding cattle selling below £1800.

Dugdale Nutrition sponsored the show and Gary Rudd from Grassings Farm in Kirkbride judged the classes. The Overall Champion sold for 2,500gns and was purchased by the judge. Espland Takeoff Sasha was consigned by Alan Cannon from near Appleby and was sired by Progenesis Takeoff. Espland sold another four heifers to average £2008.
